Is “Culture-Hacking” the New Hype!?

What is “Culture-Hacking” and what does it mean? In this article, I would like to show that we have much more possibilities in our professional and private life than we were told. Our culture, i.e. how we deal with ourselves and with others, is much easier to change than it was once believed.

I guess we all have that experience. After all, isn’t it the case that working together always presents us with new challenges? Is it at work, where we are more or less embedded in fixed processes? Be it in private, where family and friends sometimes have their own peculiarities?

And last but not least with ourselves, our own thoughts, ideas, dreams and fears that cast a spell over us?

Emotions are “Energy in Motion

However, what you can observe in all these situations is an emotion that seems to overcome us all by itself. It is either positive, like joy, happiness, and enthusiasm, or negative, like anger, anxiety, and stress.

Negative emotions tend to cause us to escape the danger of what doesn’t always work well, don’t they?

It is quite different from our positive emotions: They cause us to approach something – a goal and something we want.

Sometimes we still believed that we were helpless, not to say willless, at the mercy of these emotions. The reasons given for this (and still being given) are manifold: it is due to our DNA, to the fixed “wiring” of our brain, or simply to the environment that we cannot choose.

Are we really completely at the mercy of our emotions?

That sounds like a most welcome excuse to be innocent of one’s own situation, doesn’t it?

Today we know it much better: You have it in your hands – but only if you really want to.

The way you think in a certain situation is a program that runs in you – and programs are reprogrammable. Easy to compare with a hack we know from the software corner.

The End of the King of Excuses

We have countless programs in stock. For every seemingly trivial or even difficult situation. Simple examples are cycling or driving a car – it works automatically.

But also how we deal with challenges, meet our fellow human beings, colleagues and customers and how we deal with ourselves are programmed.

Which place we choose at the table, how we argue and love each other – all these are programs that run – very precisely and always the same. All of this together makes up our personality and character. Together it shapes our culture.

If you change your programmes, you will change your culture. One thing is very important: You have much more power over yourself than you have been made to believe so far. That is about to change as quickly as possible.

Using Culture-Hacking consciously

But how is that possible? The techniques used are not new, and they have been used by politics, advertising, and marketing for a long time without most of us ever noticing. Yet it is the case.

With my clients, I work with Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Hypnosis, and with great success.

Now you are certainly wondering whether NLP and hypnosis would not be manipulative. You see, I knew it 🙂 Yes, they are, otherwise, they would not be so effective. Influencing appears hidden because it works with the unconscious and not with the conscious mind. Yes, and the right and ethical use is, of course, a basic requirement, as with all the tools we use every day. Any action we take is only taken with the consent of the person concerned.

Tools are neither good nor bad per se, only their use can have positive or negative consequences. It is the same with NLP and hypnosis. That is why we use NLP and hypnosis exclusively for the benefit of all concerned.

A little Secret …

In this connection a little secret: When you and I were still in kindergarten age, we were 100% unconsciously on the road. We believed everything that our most important caregivers told us and showed us. Simply everything! This is how many of our assumptions about the world, our beliefs, and values that shape our culture came about. So culture hacking was already being done without us noticing it.

Things that are important to you today may have their origins back then. And also everything that you find disturbing about yourself can have its origin at this time. You have simply unconsciously adopted the culture of your environment. Of course, there was nothing else.
